Asked questions about the FAB Web SMS Service
Q. What is the FAB Web SMS service?
A. The FAB Web SMS
service is an online program/website for sending and receiving SMS Text Messages using your Web Browser.
Q. What browsers are supported?
A. Currently
Internet Explorer 6, 7 & 8; Firefox 2.x and Firefox 3.x are supported. There are some issues with a disappearing menu structure when using Google's Chrome but otherwise works fine.
Q. Can
I send a text message from USA/Canada to a European
mobile?
A.
Yes. We use a UK & European message centres for
sending. View the
supported networks page for a complete list of all available destinations.
Q. Will it work
in USA/Canada?
A.
No. We are working hard to add the ability to send and receive to & from USA & Canadian networks
Q. If I
buy a block of messages can I use the same account for Web SMS and the SMS Addin for Microsoft Outloook. Also use the same account at Home and
Work?
A.
Yes. Both the Web SMS system & our SMS Addin for MS Outlook use the same sending accounts so you can use either or both products. For the Addin if you
use the same default email address in Outlook at home and work then yes you can use it at home, otherwise you
will need to purchase two licenses. Web SMS can be used anywhere you connect to the internet using your browser.
Q. How long do messages last?
A. So long as you send at least one message a year then indefinately. If your account has been inactive for more than a year then all sending credit will expire.
Q. Can I use a
different SMS Gateway other than yours?
A.
No. Other
gateways do not provide the functionality required by the Addin.
Q. We are an SMS Gateway/IT Professional can we use it for
our customers, co-brand etc?
A.
Maybe. This will involve us
licensing the technology to you and/or arranging royalty
payments/reseller commision. It might be difficult for us to turn this into a White Label product but we would investigate if there is enough demand. Alternatively there is a Partner/Reseller programme you can sign up to, to generate referral income. Please call
to discuss your
needs.
Q. Is Web SMS available in other
languages?
A. Only (British) English is
current available. Support for other languages will most likely follow, but no firm
dates are set.
Q. I like your Web SMS service but it would be nice if
it could do such and such
A.
Tell us what features you would like to
see in future versions and if we feel they are commercially viable we may
include them in new releases.
Q. Do I get replies to my messages back in my browser?
A. Yes, but you need a dedicated Geographical UK number, which is available from us.
Q. How many characters can I send in one message?
A. Lots! Currently we can send a message with up to 38,250 characters (yes you read that right), large messages are broken down into multiple smaller messages and then sent. Compatible handsets can then reform these messages into one long message. Using this method you are no longer restricted to 160 characters.
Q. What is Flash SMS and can I send them?
A.
Flash SMS is a Text Message that appears instantly on the screen of a recipient's handset without them having to navigate to their inbox. Yes you can send this type of SMS from our Web SMS service select "High Priority" when sending your message.
Q. What's the difference between the standard and professional versions?
A.
The difference between the two versions is mainly the cost of messaging and multi-user functionality. The standard version has a higher message cost but the software is free, this is really suitable for occassional use when you just need to send an odd text here and there to remote workers or friends & colleagues. The professional version is more suited for high volume users and as a consequence has much lower message cost (from 6p per message), each professional user requires a license to use the program with discounts for multiple users. In additional to lower message costs the professional version allows for multiple users on the same sending account and the ability to set the sender ID (the monika that appears across the top of the text message).
Q. Will I need to purchase a new license when you bring out a product update or upgrade?
A. No. You will automatically receive the latest version of the program free of charge for the lifetime of the product. From time to time we will also release complimentary products such as visual SMS and a vCard sender which you will also receive free of charge as part of your Product Assurance Agreement. However there may be a major new feature or add on that will require an additional cost, for example the SMS Keyword Manager for Dedicated Geographic/Virtual Mobile Numbers incurs an additional cost but these will be quite substantial increases in functionality and/or stand alone products.
Q. Can I use my message credit with other FAB SMS products?
A. Yes and No. Over the coming months we will be releasing complimentary
products such as Visual SMS and The FAB Email/SMS List manager. All of
which you'll be able to use the same messaging account. You won't be able to use
same SMS credit for "Forgot You Not" and "Hey I Love You" the latter of which is
due out later this year.
