Q. What is the FAB SMS Addin for Microsoft Outlook?

A. The FAB SMS Addin for Microsoft Outlook is a COM Addin that provides Text Messaging capabilities directly from Microsoft Outlook.

Q. Will the Addin work on Novel Groupwise, Lotus Notes or Outlook Express?

A. No.  The Addin is only compatible with Outlook 2000/2002

Q. What operating systems are supported?

A. Currently Windows 98, WindowsME, Windows 2000, WindowsXP are all supported.  There are issues with users of WindowsNT which we are working to resolve.  There are no plans to make a Windows 95 version.

Q. What Mail Servers are supported?

A. At present only Microsoft Exchange 5.5 & above are supported.  We are hoping to add support for others at a later date.

Q. Do I need a Mail Server to run the Addin?

A. No. The Addin will run perfectly well if you run Outlook in internet mode (IMO)

Q. Can I send a text message from USA/Canada to a European mobile?

A. Yes.  We use a European message centre for sending.

Q. Will it work in Australia?

A. As far as we know. So long as the recipient is connected to either Vodafone or Telstra Mobile Comms there shouldn't be a problem.

Q.  If I buy a block of messages can I use the same account at Home and Work?

A.  If you use the same email address at home and work then yes, otherwise you will need to purchase two licenses of the Addin.  

Q. Can I use a different SMS Gateway other than yours?

A. No. Other gateways do not provide the functionality required by the Addin.

Q. We are an SMS Gateway can we use it for our customers, co-brand etc?

A. Maybe.  This will involve us licensing the technology to you and/or arranging royalty payments/reseller commision.  Please call to discuss your needs.

Q. Your documentation says to send a message I need an active connection to the internet. Is it possible to work offline and send at a later time?

A. Not at the moment.  However we will be adding this capability in a future release.

Q. Is the Addin available in other languages?

A. Only (British) English is current available. Support for other languages will most likely follow, but no firm dates are set.

Q. Do you have a full boxed product, where can I buy media?

A.  No.  The Addin is a downloadable product only. If there is enough demand then a full boxed product complete with media may be made available.

Q. I like the Addin but it would be nice if it could do XXXX?

A. Tell us what features you would like to see in future versions and if we feel they are commercially viable we may include them in new releases.

Q. I've installed the Addin, I have the extra buttons in Outlook but I can't send a text message what's wrong?

A. First make sure you have registered the Addin with us as per the installation instructions.  Next make sure you have entered the Application Password you registered with us, with Outlook.  Click on Tools | Options... Then on the SMS Options tab enter the password.

Q. I've done all that but it still doesn't work?

A. Email us on support@fabit.com explaning the steps you have taking the version of Outlook and Windows you are using and your email address as shown in Help | About in the Addin.
